Blogging Summary

I have found that when writing on a blog you take more pride in your work. When you write an essay, you are usually writing about a subject that you are not interested about. With a blog tho, you can write the way you want and what interests you like. In the blog, I can write about sports, hobbies and other things that motivate me to write good quality work. I currently have 181 page views for my blog. The drive to get more page views pushes me to put more effort and passion into my writing. I definitely edit my blog more carefully because it is my opinion and it is to be viewed to the whole world.

In class, we were told to try a site called Klout. Klout is a site which rates your overall reach to people on social networking sites. It rates you on a scale from 1 to 100.  My score at the moment is at a 44, which is pretty good. The highest score on Klout is 100 and the holder is Justin Bieber. You don't really want to have a rating of 1 because that basically means you don't exist.

Joy Of Being A Rook

There is no better feeling than making your home town junior lacrosse team. Of course the excitement of receiving all your apparel and picking your is awesome, but it is different in Elora. As a rook (rookie) you take part in a draft that the vets (veterans) run and they choose who they want to be their rook. It is almost like getting drafted into the NLL. They all draw for position of draft picks and then they all rate the rooks on the team. I was fortunately picked 3rd overall in the 2012 rookie draft. That is when all the excitement from making the team turns into a awkward experience.

Just before the first practice, the vets take their rooks and give them a new "haircut", also known as the rookie cut. The vet sits you down on a chair in the middle of the hall in the Elora arena and go to town on you hair. Since you get your haircut in the order that you got drafted, it was pretty funny watching the other rooks get their haircut into weird patterns. All your laughter ends when you get thrown into the chair. You can hear your vet behind you laughing away as he hacks away at your head, and give you some wild style. In the end it isn't that bad, until you realize that you have to go to school with that haircut. As you can see, in the top left corner, my hair is a complete mess. Now, for most kids they can walk around without getting stared at and laughed at, but when you have hair like me and other rooks, it is tough. Most people would say wear a hat, but their is a rule against wearing a hat. The rule is that you can not wear a hat for a whole week that you have the new haircut. If you are caught wearing a hat or shave your head in that week they will shave your eye brows off.

After awhile, you realize that you are stuck with the hair so you have to make the best of it. Instead of walking in scared and embarrassed, you have to walk in knowing that you will be stared at and made fun of. Of course the first day is a little awkward because everyone stares at you but, then you can start having fun with it. For me, I knew it looked bad so I put the hair that was left over in a pony tail. It basically comes down to if you think it is embarrassing and let everyone get under your skin, it will be a miserable week. If you take it like a man and just make it hilarious, then it will be a pretty good week. The whole point of the rook cut is for all of Elora to see your hair at the home opener. During "Oh Canada" the rooks stand to feet in front of the vets and let all the fans embrace their hair.

Even though being a rook sounds like it could be miserable, it is actually really enjoyable. You are part of a team, almost like a second family. There is nothing better than to show up at the Elora arena in front of a sold out crowd with all your bros (brothers). Junior is an awesome time in your life and you should never give it up just because of a hair cut.

Ridiculous Prices For Insurance

These days it is hard to get a low price on car insurance for young drivers. Insurance can be really expensive if you are a brand new driver and your parents don't help out with the bills. You basically can't drive if you don't do your Ontario Drivers Course. That course includes, ten hours in class and ten hours in car. Just to take the course it varies from $500-$800 and thats is a lot of money for a kid who doesn't have a job.

Recently I have been searching for a vehicle online. It is very tough to find a decent car for a low price! It doesn't help trying to find a low priced car when you have to pay Emission Tests and Safety Tests on the side. The biggest deal breaker that I have noticed is the new HST taxes. A $3,000 dollar car ends up being $3,390 which is just after HST and not including all the test. Paying around $4,000 before for you even get insurance is just disgusting,

My boss from my summer job is a classic car collector/restorer. Last weekend he went to a auction and bought a 1979 Ford Granada for $870. It was in perfect shape and he offered it to me for the auction price and he would redo the breaks and put a new stereo system in it. I was so excited because it was a decent car and a good price. My future car was basically taken from my hands when the insurance company told me it would be $4,500 a year. I was so disappointed. I went to work the next day and was talking to a full time worker and she said that that is terrible because she pays a little over $1000 a year for her auto and home!

I am justing waiting for my insurance to go down. I don't see how people can drive with that high of prices. The prices make me want to change my career direction and start up an insurance company. Just trying to pay for school, sports and soon a car will be a huge bill just because of these ridiculous prices the insurance company offers.

Wooden Lacrosse Stick or Plastic?

For most lacrosse goalies you have to make a decision of what stick you want. Most people look at a wooden lacrosse stick and say that it would be to heavy or complain about the size. Instead people decide to get a stick called "The Wall". In my opinion, The wall is a piece of crap. I play for the Elora Jr.B lacrosse team and I love my wooden lacrosse stick.

I have used a wooden stick since my first year bantam. It was the best choice I have ever made because it is durable, throws perfect and it looks good. I bought my stick from the Mitchell Brothers in Cornwall Island. Of course they don't live forever. Since it is made of wood, it requires a lot of care. Everyone has heard the term, "Your stick is your best friend", but for a lacrosse goalies it should mean, "Your stick is your baby". Your stick should mean something to you. You shouldn't leave it in the rain, you shouldn't leave it in dry rooms and should never leave the cat gut done up. Having to care for these sticks scares people away from buying them, but you should care for your stick anyways. You might as well buy a good quality stick. One thing that is awesome about the wooden sticks is you can get them to different ways you hold it. if you are a righty, you can buy a right handed stick. If you are a lefty, then you can buy a left handed stick.

The wall is a different story. My good friend and a fellow goalie uses the wall. The most trouble he has is throwing  and saving the ball with it because of how flexible it is. Obviously the wall is lighter and easier to care for, but it doesn't save the ball. Just last weekend (Saturday, April 21, 2012), we were playing the Guelph Regals. A player on our team stepped in and wound a shot right at the goalies stick (The Wall) and it flexed and the ball went in. If I was in that goalies position, I would not be very happy because he was in the right position and just because his stick wasn't good, It ended up going in. The wall was made to compete against the wooden sticks because of their size. Even though it is the same size, it doesn't save the ball and you can't throw with it because it is to flexible. Personally, The Wall is a piece of crap and a waste of money.

This only applies to players Bantam and up. Due to the weight a young player wouldn't be able to lift it. If you are going out to by your first stick, DO NOT waste your money on a piece of plastic. Get a nice hand made wooden stick which is durable and made perfectly. Trust me, wooden sticks are the best.

Indiana Jones and The Raiders of the Lost Ark Reveiw

Indiana Jones featuring Harrison Ford, is an adventurous movie about an archaeologist which searches for a christian treasure "The Ark". In the beginning, Indiana seems to be a calm and collected high school teacher which seems to be more interested in work than anything else. What the students don't know is after school hours he finds precious items and fights off villains with a whip. In this movie, the visual and sound effects are excellent in the fight scenes. Even though it is an older film, It is great for the people who love watching adventure and history based movies. The main characters in this film are perfect for the parts due to their appearance and voices.
